We’ve been working with Uber to create an initiative around the Women’s Euros and help ensure that the enthusiasm for the game created by the Lioness’ success isn’t diminished as the nights draw in.
We struck upon the insight that safety fears around getting home during the winter leads to a fall in women’s football participation once winter comes and the clocks change.
Which got us to thinking.
That’s how we struck-up a partnership with Powerleague to offer a solution to that problem and create a brand-new partnership aiming to play a small role in bringing some more glory in years to come. It will see Uber donate £10,000 of rides to female footballers who play in Powerleague operated leagues across the UK from October 2022.
In order to help raise these participation levels and look after rider safety, Uber will be donating the rides – after a summer trial that has just started – to ensure that women can attend games and train safely.
Media loved the initiative with positive coverage reported in Daily Telegraph, Sportbible, Sports Industry and The VERGE (as ever, among very many others).
Back of the net, with more to come this autumn …
