The Royal Mint miniaturises to launch a masterpiece of metalwork and the UK’s smallest ever gold minted coin

This week The Royal Mint launched the world’s smallest ever minted gold coin – the teeny tiny 1/40th of an ounce version of the Britannia design that adorns their range of collectable precious metal coins. It’s quite a thing of beauty – the detail really is a remarkable example of the master craftsman’s art.

And it was the simple fact that, with a remarkable piece of craftsmanship, a cracking design story and a “world’s smallest ever …” story to go along side all of that and dramatise it, we had a lovely story on our hands.

A spot of magic from a couple of the agency’s favourite photographers later we were ready to take the story to the media and – once again – clean up on the coverage front.

While there was some fantastic online coverage (everywhere from Yahoo!, MSN, Aol., HuffPo to DesignBoom and TrendHunter), this one landed big time in print with crackers in Metro, The Sun, The Times (which devoted a half page picture story to the coin) and the Daily Express.

Then there was some lovely stuff across the Scottish and Northern Irish nationals (the Daily Record, The Herald, the News Letter, Press & Journal and The Scotsman all devoted heaps of space to our very small coin).

Another little triumph for the team at Hope&Glory.
