We found ourselves part of the 1 April fun and games last week as a number of clients got involved with the entertainment of the annual PR jamboree.
For Barclaycard, we cooked up a plan to lunch the Barclaycard Anything machine. The claim being that it would turn any item in the world into a device to make contactless payments.
A video in their Northampton HQ later (with thanks to marketing director Katherine Whitton for getting involved) showing a number of potential customers – including a baby carrier, a gnome and a naturists’ flip flop (really) – later and we were set.
As it turned out and thanks to a pretty formidable push from the team we landed a host of pieces. On the national front, the Daily Telegraph, Daily Express, Independent and Daily Star.
Tech-wise we nailed BT.com, Pocket-Lint and Huffington Post amongst others, alongside marketing titles including Campaign, The Drum and Marketing.
Quite a haul on one of the toughest days of the yer to cut through against all the other tomfoolery. Particularly since we pulled the same trick twice with April Fool’s stormers for Virgin Trains and Virgin Active!
