Tech giant ByteDance is the latest to announce the desire to dabble in AI with its music creation app, Ripple.
The app will allow users to create and edit tracks in a similar way to other music software used by professionals and bedroom DJs alike, with a critical point of difference โ the tech allows the user to simply hum, toot or squeak into the microphone and Ripple will convert the audio into a piece of music, adding its own AI-generated drums, guitar, and bass slaps.
There is a catch, though, as thus far, the tech only creates a song for as long as you’re making noise into the mic, meaning only the iron-lunged among us can create feature-length bangers.
Ripple will also be connected to TikTok, where users can import their creations as background music and show off their fabulous talents.
It’s currently being tested in a closed beta, so for most of us, it’s just another AI announcement thrown into the ether to be terrified/excited about.
