The week that saw the Virgin Trains team re-launch the most famous name in rail travel with Scotland’s First Minister

Almost everyone in the UK – and many more around the world – has heard of the Flying Scotsman. Originally the first train to break the 100 mph barrier, it’s an icon and legend of the national rail network and trains bearing its name have been speeding between London and Edinburgh for over 150 years.

In a move that marks another step in Virgin Trains’ “Virginising” of the east coast fleet, the famous train was brought back to life with a new livery, ready to carry passengers between two capital cities once more …  and we were lucky enough to be on the team that announced it.

Such a major announcement will often draw a famous name and in this case it was Nicola Sturgeon (Scotland’s First Minister no less), who dutifully helped unveil it at Edinburgh Waverley station in front of a crowd of people, press and the Red Hot Chili Pipers.

The event produced some stunning imagery that the team used to generate national print coverage in the likes of The Times, The Independent, Metro, Daily Express Scotland, Daily Star Scotland, The Scottish Sun, The Herald, Daily Record, The Scotsman and Edinburgh Evening News. A pretty impressive haul all round!

You can check out the video of the unveil, including an interview with Nicola Sturgeon and Virgin Trains Managing Director, David Horne, right here.
