We again stepped in to help Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital Charity raise awareness and funds for their new Childrenโs Cancer Centre.ย
We were asked to put the family’s experiences at the heart of what we do.
The team told us of the urgency of the campaign – childhood cancer rates are up by 11%, with children under 5 years old making up nearly half of all new childhood cancer diagnoses. We needed impact.
We decided to go bold, unveiling a striking new installation as Spring unfurled โ a time when families traditionally flock to outdoor spacesโ unless they are in hospital for cancer.
Our three child-sized statues, created entirely from replica chemotherapy wire and positioned in a specially created play park structure, symbolised the spaces held for childrenโs play whilst they are in treatment.
It was a poignant reminder of the everyday family moments often stolen by a diagnosis.
The statues also included motion-triggered audio technology, meaning visitors heard affected childrenโs stories and thoughts first-hand, told in their own voices.ย
The results were immediate, with the Independent, Daily Telegraph, The Times and Daily Mirror covering the story, alongside a host of consumer titles, regional papers and trades. Weโre hoping that itโs made a contribution to Great Ormond Street raising the much-needed funds towards the new centre.
