Corona launches ‘Lime Guides’: Fixing the Most Annoying Part of Drinking Its Own Beer

Picture the smell of stale upholstery and industrial-strength bleach. The floors are sticky with WKD residue. You stand at a bar, a bowl of shrivelled citrus in front of you.

You order your Corona; it comes ice-cold, with a lime wedge on top. Pushing it in, juice stings your cut, pulp sticks to the rim.

First world problems, right. But it is these minor rituals that make the experience.
Corona is launching Lime Guides, a new product designed to enhance the iconic lime ritual associated with enjoying a Corona. These Lime Guides consist of real limes with laser-etched cutting guides, helping consumers cut the perfect wedge to fit into their bottle or can. This initiative reflects the brand’s focus on improving small but memorable moments for its customers.

Launched on 10 March, observed as International Lime Day, Corona’s new Lime Guides use advanced, food-safe laser technology to etch cutting guides directly onto the skin of real limes. Also known as fruit tattoos, they offer a precise visual guide for slicing a wedge that fits neatly into a Corona bottle or can.

According to Corona, Lime Guides are the first ever lime that shows you where to cut. The campaign was developed by Grey Global and supported by digital films and key visuals across trade, digital and social channels.

More than 25,000 Lime Guides were made available across 30+ retail locations on 3 continents, with consumers in participating markets also able to order them via local delivery apps.

“Everyone loves having a Corona with a lime, until you’re struggling to push the slice into the bottle,” said Alvaro Soto, Grey Global Group creative director. “We loved the idea of solving that tiny challenge in the most Corona way possible, with the help of nature, letting the lime itself show you exactly where to cut. This simple solution transforms the lime ritual into a smooth and effortless experience.”

This approach solves a minor problem with an engaging, tactile solution, tapping into consumer desire for analogue joy in a digital world. It positions a simple lime as an interactive brand asset, memorable, shareable and instantly understandable, precisely the kind of sticky innovation marketers strive for.
