Life’s hard at Hope&Glory.
Not only do we get to work on some of the coolest products in the world, but sometimes we’re also lucky enough to go abroad and show them off. Which is exactly what we were doing last week at Europe’s answer to E3 – Gamescom.
To drive further awareness of the hottest topic in gaming right now, HTC Vive, we descended on Cologne alongside over 350,000 other people eager to get hands on with the latest gaming releases.
Knowing we were showcasing something pretty amazing – the first playable VR demo of gaming behemoth DOTA 2 – we secured a list which reads as a who’s who of gaming to come and demo the device. BBC, Sky, Gamespot, Eurogamer, EDGE, IGN, Wareable, Pocket-lint, Stuff, Digital Spy, Metro, Kotaku as well as YouTube megastars Vikkstar123 and Wizzite were just some of the names that got hands on with Vive (and were all blown away).
Alongside the demos, we also released the news to the UK media, securing coverage in titles that weren’t attending Gamescom.
Coverage is still landing, but so far we’ve seen about 35 pieces with highlights including Sky News, an 8 minute Gamespot piece and a 10 minute inclusion on the Eurogamer podcast (Skip to 23 minutes), in addition to hugely positive pieces on Stuff, Wareable, Digital Spy and the Gadget Show. There was even a cheeky Instagram post from YouTube phenomenon Vikkstar123 which gained over 40,000 likes in just two hours.
That’s not to mention a tactical demo invite leading to an award nomination (and win) for best in show in the hardware category – leading to even more coverage.
