We held Sony’s annual Christmas Audio Quiz virtually this year, securing our highest ever attendance
In its 7th year, the Sony Christmas Audio Quiz is a ‘diary date’ that journalists and influencers look forward to year on year. To follow on a tradition, in 2020 we held the event virtually to give friendlies a slice of normality and keep Sony front-of-mind for Christmas gift guides.
For the first time ever, we organised a separate quiz for UK and Irish contacts and secured our highest ever attendance with 91 enthusiastic quizzers.
Attendees were tested on their music knowledge with the help of Sony’s latest gear – from the WH-1000XM4 premium wireless noise-cancelling headphones, to Sony’s NW-A105 Walkman featuring high-resolution audio. The festive season is one of the busiest times of year for Sony and an ideal time for gifting, with the quiz maximising Sony’s chances of being featured under everyone’s Christmas tree.
To strike the right balance between challenge and entertainment, we organised numerous interactive elements. As a special surprise, we were joined by several celebrity guests that tapped into childhood memories and nostalgia. Sooty stole the show, whilst Paul Chuckle and James Buckley from The Inbetweeners had everyone in stitches. Other famous faces included Charlie Lawson, Blu Hydrangea from RuPaul’s Drag Race, plus Heidi Montag of The Hills fame.
To keep attendees on their toes, we arranged pre-recorded content of the Sony team completing various challenges to bring the key features to life. This ranged from dunking SRS-XB33 waterproof speaker in an apple bobbing container, to jogging with the SP800N earbuds.
The event was a huge success, with attendees including Press Association, Bang Showbiz, Fabulous, Tech Radar, Esquire, Daily Star, The Irish Independent and The Irish Sun. A raft of influencers joined the Zoom call too, such as Rowan Row, Erwin Trinidad, India Harl, Lonan O’Herlihy and Super Saf.
Christmas Gift Guide and social coverage have been pouring in ever since, with over 75 social posts logged and 169 pieces of audio editorial coverage. Standout pieces include WH-1000XM4 in GQ and Mail Online, WF-SP800N in Stuff, plus NW-A55L in What Hi-Fi? Result!
