We’ve worked with American Express for four years or so now and this year were given the opportunity to work with them on their Wimbledon sponsorship campaign.
Who’s going to say no to that?
The news kicked off in June as we announced the partnership and the appointment of none other than two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray as the latest American Express Ambassador.
Murray lent his voice and tennis expertise to “virtually” host Champion’s Rally, an immersive virtual reality game in the American Express Fan Experience on-site at Wimbledon, coaching fans as they play on a faithful representation of Centre Court.
This Champion’s Rally was a smashing success, netting over 150 pieces including a centre spread in the Evening Standard, Mail Online, Yahoo, AOL, MSN and many more…
It also sparked some fierce competition amongst tennis aces past and present, with both John McEnroe and Venus Williams popping down to the Fan Experience in a bid to beat Andy’s own score – and happily boosting coverage totals along the way!
Interviews with Murray earned us a Weekend cover story in The Times, the Guardian Q&A slot and pieces in The I, The Scotsman and the Daily Record.
And we didn’t stop there!
We also worked with John McEnroe – famously not the calmest of players – to record a Sleep Story in partnership with Calm and American Express, in which he reads all the rules of tennis in a bid to soothe fans stressed by the game.
This tongue-in-cheek story inspired media including the Metro, Evening Standard and GQ, and lived in the American Express Fan Experience so all fans could come and experience their own little oasis … seriously!
