Working with Barclays, we calculated that young adults flying back to the nest cost their parents a whopping £2,702 as spending on household costs increased significantly during the kids’ average 10 and a half week stay. Despite the strain on their bank accounts, only one in 10 parents surveyed said they had charged their returning lodgers rent.
