Rewind launched a new range of crisps with what is arguably the utter peak of novelty in a world of reconstituted potato snacks.
Releasing a range of “9-Volt Battery crisps”, which are now available in the Netherlands and part of their wider brand launch, which features the more traditional options, including Creamy Paprika, BBQ & Honey, and Cheese & Onion.
However, the machine tooled headline grabbers are the ones that taste like batteries, or more to the point, that particular collective childhood stupidity that is licking a battery (come on, we all did it).
That metallic tingle that would often turn into instant regret comes from a heady mix of citric acid, sodium bicarbonate, and mineral salts to fake the fizz. Rewind is very clear that no copper, no current, or any industrial battery acid is used in the making of the snacks. Rather, it is a heavy dose of pure novelty aimed at cementing Rewind as the Nostalgic Crisp brand.
Which, according to Antti Lauronen, Head of Creative and Design, is one that “embodies a shared memory from the 90s, transforming it into a snackable experience”
And although it’s totally bonkers and wildly old skool attention-grabbing tomfoolery, you can’t argue that it caught attention, raises a smile and whets the appetite to want to try them… sort of.
